If anybody had suggested that Houston's largest outdoor music festival would take place
under a blazing sun and two record-setting days of temperatures above the century mark,
they probably would have been laughed at, to their faces. Yet even the intense heat didn't
stop over 77,000 people (Houston Chronicle estimate) from showing up to experience what
has become an annual inner-Loop entertainment phenomenon - Free Press Houston's
Summer Fest.

Summer Fest has supplanted the original Westheimer Street Festival and, as of 2009, the
Westheimer Block Party. It has never been bigger, attracting even Austinites (who have
their own Austin City Limits Music Festival extravaganza later this year).

As always, this collection of photos isn't just about the musicians, nor the exhibitors, but
the very people - some of friendliest folks you'll ever meet - who show up to have a good time.
My sincere thanks to each and every one who allowed me to photograph them!
